About
Ashna is a Student Counsellor currently completing her Master’s in Social Work. She has a deep passion for providing nonjudgmental, trauma-informed support. By utilizing motivational interviewing, a strength-based perspective and mindful, meditative practices, Ashna aims to create a welcoming space for individuals to explore and implement their personal potential for their future – to live their best life. Ashna’s goal is to support clients in helping themselves through navigating an oppressive world and creating a safe space for self-exploration. Given her lived experience as a cis woman of colour, Ashna understands some struggles folks experience in navigating a dominant culture. Ashna strives to support folks who experience barriers and marginalization on the basis of their racial and cultural identity. She comes from a subcultural community that embraces and celebrates differences; particularly with 2SLBTQIA+ communities.
Ashna believes that inclusivity and anti-oppression is a critical component to the therapeutic relationship. She centers a warm and compassionate approach to better meet her clients needs. From her previous experience as a social worker for 18 years, Ashna has learned the importance of co-creating safety and collaborating with clients in navigating systems and supporting their mental health and wellness. She hopes to bring a holistic approach to her work with clients
When Ashna is not working she can be found traveling the world, enjoying a meal, practicing meditative yoga or spending time with loved ones - sometimes all at once!
