About
Hello, and welcome. My name is Dani Miller (they/them) and I am a counselling intern who offers virtual individual and relationship counselling at Collective Healing and Expressive Wellness.
I grew up on the unceded territory of the south-eastern Anishinaabe in the Kawartha Lakes of Ontario and now live, work, and play on the unceded territories the Esquimalt Xʷsepsəm, Songhees, and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations.
As a white settler, queer, transgender, neurodivergent, autoimmune compromised counsellor-in-training, I know that who we are, where we come from, and the communities we belong to all influence how we experience life. I strive to offer counselling that is affirming, collaborative, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive, while seeking to be responsive to your unique experiences and the way you move through the world.
Before beginning my Master of Counselling, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles supporting individuals and communities. Over the last 7 years as an Integral Master Coach, I have walked alongside individuals, many 2SLGBTQIA+ and IBPOC individuals, seeking coaching support in navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, identity exploration, and the impacts of discrimination, marginalization, and systems of oppression on their daily lives. Together, we have focused on fostering deeper self-reflection, strengthening self-understanding, and creating lives that felt more authentic and aligned with their values.
I also have worked as an employment coach supporting individuals experiencing addiction and mental health challenges, held leadership roles within the tech industry, and volunteered with Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) initiatives and mutual aid organizations focused on food security. I have also worked within the non-profit sector supporting individuals who have experienced gender-based violence.
These experiences have shaped my belief that counselling extends beyond what happens in the counselling room; as humans, we exist in context. While our work together is at the heart of the counselling process, I also believe counsellors have a responsibility to advocate for systemic change, strengthen our communities, and help connect clients with resources that support their well-being beyond our work together.
Starting counselling can feel intimidating. My intention is to create a space where you can feel comfortable bringing your whole self into our conversations. I work from a person-centred, narrative, and strengths-based perspective, which means I see you as the expert in your own life.
We may also consider how your relationships, family, community, culture, systems of oppression, and the broader world may be shaping your experiences. We'll work together to understand what's happening in your life and move toward what matters most to you.
I welcome clients seeking support with:
Beyond the counselling room, I love spending quality time at home with my partner and our two senior pups, cooking, listening to vinyl, nostalgically putting on a CD from my youth, playing guitar, and enjoying live music.
I also appreciate the healing power of connecting with nature, whether that means caring for my houseplants, tending to my garden, traveling, birding, hiking, or swimming. You can also find me volunteering with mutual aid initiatives, supporting community fundraisers, and participating in social justice advocacy work.
