Janae (they/she) is a 2spirit, queer, neurodivergent, able-bodied, straight-sized guest gratefully living, working, and playing on the stolen, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. They are mixed Jamaican, Néhinaw, Japanese, and Scottish.
Janae has experience working alongside diverse populations across the lifespan as a registered nurse in integrative youth health and mental health, in-patient and residential eating disorders, public health, mental health and substance use, and primary care.
She is committed to dismantling internalized forms of oppression including, and not limited to, ableism, anti-fat bias, and racism. Janae has a warm, calm, and casual demeanour. You can expect a validating, and trauma-informed approach that centers the individual’s experience. They will tend to the relationship through compassion, shifting perspectives, and honouring personal wisdom.
Janae’s previous experience includes working with children and youth with eating disorders, supporting youth with gender and identity exploration, anxiety, low mood, substance use, and life transitions. They have additional experience working with individuals and families facing houselessness, newcomers and refugees, 2SLGBTQ+, sex workers, and people who use substances. She has lived-experience with anxiety, low mood, gender dysphoria, body image challenges, intergenerational wounds, and navigating a multicultural family.
In their downtime, you can find Janae gardening, writing poetry, biking, camping, attending drag shows, and playing with cats.
