Kailyn’s path to becoming a therapist wasn’t linear. She started her career as a registered nurse in 2013 and realized a couple of things; one, that healthcare workers are experiencing burnout and need support, and two, people in the community are coming to the hospital for mental health reasons that the healthcare system isn’t structured to support. Throughout her time as a nurse, she found that connection with other seemed to be a common thread of healing for people.
Kailyn knows that folks are majorly impacted by colonialism, capitalism, patriarchy, fatphobia, ableism, racism, gender and white supremacy (to name a few). These systems of oppression affect us all and affect some much more than others. Kailyn believes that therapy can be a conduit for healing and she believes that people can heal in relationships and in the community. Her therapy style is driven by what therapists call a narrative approach and she uses a harm-reduction, trauma-informed lens in her sessions. Kailyn realizes that life and relationships can be hard, and it’s important that we get to move through these things together.
Kailyn was raised on Mi’kma’ki land (so-called Nova Scotia) and now lives and works on the unceded, and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh), S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō), and Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w (Squamish) Nations.
Kailyn's interests include moving her body outside, weather-watching, and baking scrumptious treats and sharing them with loved ones.
