About
Viviana (she/her/hers) is a first-generation Chinese immigrant who identifies as a queer cisgender individual. She is also able-bodied and resides on unceded territory belonging to the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Born and raised in China, Viviana has spent a significant portion of her life living and learning in Southeast Asia, particularly in Singapore and Malaysia. Her professional identity and approach have been profoundly shaped by the fusion of Western and Eastern philosophies, and she possesses a deep understanding of clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. These multifaceted identities, experiences, and contextual factors greatly inform her role as a counsellor.
Viviana is a licensed clinical counsellor and accredited art therapist who provides bilingual clinical counselling and art therapy services in both English and Mandarin. With more than eight years of dedicated, full-time experience, she has provided support to clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Her client base encompasses individuals contending with psychological distress, emotional and/or substance use challenges, as well as families grappling with grief and loss, refugees who have endured traumatic events in their home countries, individuals with histories of childhood trauma, and folks dealing with issues related to identity crisis and low self-esteem, among other concerns. Viviana has applied her expertise across a spectrum of settings, including hospitals, non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, international corporations, shelters, mental health institutes, and mindfulness-based companies.
Viviana’s approaches are mindfulness-based, trauma-informed, anti-oppression, and client-centered. Her counselling style is empathetic, compassionate, creative, and non-judgmental, fostering a safe space for you to express your narrative through both verbal and non-verbal means.
Your personal insights into your life experiences hold significant worth, and Viviana is committed to collaborating closely with you to customize a counselling strategy that suits your needs. The experience of confronting oppression and other life challenges often gives rise to emotions such as anxiety, a sense of powerlessness, and diminished self-esteem. Viviana deeply appreciates the opportunity to assist clients in fostering self-awareness, self-empathy, and the path to healing, as well as in implementing practical solutions to make everyday tasks more manageable.
Apart from her role as a Clinical Counsellor and Art Therapist in private practice, Viviana also offers clinical supervision in art therapy to master’s level students at Adler University.
During her personal time, Viviana loves to go hiking with her dog, enjoys the company of her birds and snakes, indulges in gardening, explores her culinary skills, engages in artmaking, watches movies, listens to music, and practices meditation.
