About
Wendy (she/her) is a cisgender, fourth generation Japanese Canadian who humbly and gratefully acknowledges that she is an uninvited settler on the unceded, traditional lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh), and Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nations of the Coast Salish peoples. She is currently completing her Master of Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University.
Wendy was born to a family that was deeply affected by the internment of Japanese Canadians during World War II. Growing up racialized, Wendy felt an abiding sense of being “the other”. Through these experiences and the experiences of her ancestors, she feels a heightened sense of responsibility for advocating for underrepresented voices and working in a manner that respects diversity, inclusivity, and opposes oppression. She recognizes that it is an honour to witness your story and is dedicated to doing so with presence, compassion, and humility. Her 15 years of social justice work have given her the awareness that grave oppression, injustice, and trauma exist, and she is committed to holding space for you, wherever you are, on your healing journey.
Her therapeutic areas of interest are narrative therapy, intersectional feminism, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, neuroscience and biopsychosociology. Additionally, Wendy believes in a holistic approach to wellness, integrating mind, body, and spirit, and has an extensive background in nutrition and yoga therapy. Yoga therapy integrates both Western and Eastern approaches to healing, helping to create awareness of physical, emotional, and energetic patterns that may be contributing to health issues.
