About
I am a cisgender, queer and uninvited settler on the unceded, traditional lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh), and Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nations of the Coast Salish peoples. Elli (she/her) is a student counsellor, joining the profession after nearly two decades of working as a Registered Massage Therapist. Elli's work is informed by a deep curiosity about the psychosomatic response to trauma and other challenging life circumstances. She provides a safe and non-judgmental space for the collaborative exploration of her client's unique stories. My work is influenced by my interest in queer and feminist theory and the destructive impact of neoliberal individualism on our mental health and communities. Before entering the counselling profession, I was an RMT for 18 years, focusing on supporting clients through cancer treatment and recovery, as well as pre/post-surgical procedures (including gender-affirming surgery). I also have extensive experience in working with people with disabilities, systemic conditions and chronic pain.
I look forward to supporting clients to contextualize and better understand their stories within a framework honouring cultural diversity while acknowledging enduring race, ethnicity, and class-based power structures. My approach is de-pathologizing, non-judgmental and collaborative, and I firmly believe that all parts of our story matter and deserve to be valued and heard. As a student therapist, I am particularly interested in exploring sessions through a relational, strength-based and narrative lens. My counselling style is compassionate, accepting, open-minded and direct, and I aim to assist you in tapping into your own skills to address the issues in your life.
In my spare time, I am entertained by my charismatic senior pug as she guides me on walking meditations through our neighbourhood.
