About
Nava (she/her) is a cisgendered, non-disabled, second-generation Persian immigrant and the daughter of refugees. She lives and practices on the stolen, ancestral, and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. Nava is currently completing her Masters in Counselling at the University of British Columbia.
She works with individuals who are navigating various concerns, which may include anxiety, depression, experiences of trauma, life transitions, interrelationship issues, grief, and issues of identity. She uses an integrated person-centered approach that supports clients in exploring their feelings, thoughts, and experiences, with emphasis on collaboration, safety, and intersectional feminist values.
Nava has experience as a front-line worker, supporting survivors of gender-based violence in different contexts, from crisis line support, first-stage transitional housing, and in long term housing. In doing this work she came to understand the importance and value of using an anti-oppressive framework, and meeting individuals where they are at. She has witnessed firsthand the impact of creating safe spaces that validate and honour the unique experiences of individuals, and the power in fostering trust and resilience.
What to Expect When Working with Nava
Outside of the counselling space, Nava enjoys spending time with her friends and family, hosting dinner parties, trying out new ways to move her body, and going to comedy shows. Nava is also a ceramic artist and appreciates creating things that she can eat out of.
