About
Tessa is a cisgender, heterosexual, non-disabled, second-generation Chinese Canadian woman living and working on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
With over nine years of experience, Tessa has worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities. Her work encompasses supporting individuals impacted by developmental disabilities, substance use, intergenerational trauma, racialization, mental health concerns, and identity challenges. She is particularly passionate about helping clients navigate relationship challenges, life transitions, low self-esteem, anxiety, and family conflicts.
Tessa’s therapeutic approach is rooted in collaboration, empathy, and curiosity. She integrates evidence-based modalities, including existential counselling, narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), somatic practices, and attachment-based work. Utilizing techniques such as inquiry-based exploration, parts work, self-reflection, and repair-focused dialogue, she helps clients reconnect with their bodies, rewrite their personal stories, and embrace their inner complexity.
With lived experience navigating life’s complexities, Tessa understands the discomfort therapy can bring. She ensures her sessions foster safety, validation, and support, bringing warmth, humour, non-judgment, patience, and care to each interaction. By empowering clients to explore their thoughts, values, and perspectives, she helps them cultivate clarity and take meaningful steps toward positive change.
In a world where so much is out of our control, Tessa emphasizes empowering her clients to focus on the aspects of life within their influence. She also helps them explore profound questions about identity, purpose, and meaning through an existential lens.
In her free time, Tessa enjoys watching movies, spending time in nature, trying new recipes, and connecting with friends and family. She strives to bring balance and joy into her life, honouring the journey of growth and exploration that she also supports in her clients.
